VINEVINU
- 50 yearsof family Alvarinho in Melgaço
- 30+ yearsmaking wine
- 22 yearsleading the Vinho Verde tasting panel
Luís Cerdeira comes from the family behind Soalheiro, the Alvarinho winery his father founded in Melgaço in 1982, and managed it until 2024. He also led the laboratory and tasting panel of the Vinho Verde Wine Commission for 22 years. In 2024 he started VINEVINU with his son Manuel, who trained in winemaking at Plumpton College in England. Their vineyards run from the coast at Famalicão to the mountains of Melgaço.
Why we chose it: We chose VINEVINU for three reasons. Their wines are built on Alvarinho, the best-known grape of Vinho Verde, from both maritime and mountain vineyards. One producer covers dry, sweet and sparkling wines, so an importer can start a range with a single supplier. And the wines are fresh, with moderate alcohol from 8.5% to 13%, which suits the food of India and Asia: Almanua's saline freshness works with seafood, coconut and tamarind, and Guri's gentle sweetness and low alcohol work with chilli heat.

Terroir Marítimo means maritime terroir: the Atlantic's influence on the vineyards. Intense on the nose, round and saline on the palate. The blend is chosen each harvest, and the wine is fermented in stainless steel and oak.

Gerações means generations: a tribute to the growers who built the name of Alvarinho. From high vineyards in a valley sheltered by mountains. Deep and complex on the nose, fresh, round and long on the palate.

Fresh and light. Loureiro brings floral aromas and Alvarinho the structure. High acidity balances the gentle sweetness, which the producer suggests with spicy and seasoned food.

From Paredes de Coura, a mountain area of Vinho Verde with high potential for sparkling wine, discovered by VINEVINU. Made from the area's first productive vineyards. Fine bubbles, an aroma of biscuit, fresh and long on the palate.
